Welcome AT DOMAINE DE CANAILLE

The History of the Domain

First a Provençal building was created around 1840/50 (painted by Emile Loubon), the domain was extended around 1870 by great Marseille lawyer Albert Aicard, then later by his descendants, the Gardair family. It experienced a great transformation between 1932 and 1957 into the Hotel du Revestel, a guesthouse where Winston Churchill and Virginia Woolf used to stay.

In 1949, the villa and the land were bought by a famous racing couple, Gaston and Claire Descollas, with the project of a large subdivision under the Cap Canaille of about fourty hectares. It did not succeed because the Cap was classified as a national park in 1960.

In 1968, a family from Marseille tried unsuccessfully to transform the estate into a thalassic center (see picture of the project above) The property remained abandoned for almost forty years until their son and his family settled there in the 1990's.

Bought in 2016 by a couple of digital entrepreneurs, this family home has undergone a complete renovation to combine over 600 modernity, simplicity, comfort and technology . The Domaine de Canaille takes its name from the majestic cliff that dominates it from its 399 meters, Cap Canaille, the second highest sea cliff in Europe.
